Happy Mother's Day!

May 10, 2013

Happy Friday everyone!  I want to start off by wishing all of you Mothers out there a very happy Mother's Day this weekend.  My daughter, Maddie, and I have a final Mother/Daughter project to share with you this week.  When I went to CHA in January there was a memo board make and take at the Elmer's Glue booth.  Maddie and I recreated that project together for her room.  It is really quite easy and does not take a lot of time.  Perfect for a 7 year old with a short attention span!

We started with a piece of cork foam board that we cut down to the size we wanted.  We then stamped cupcakes images from our Cupcakes clear photopolymer stamp set onto a sheet of our Ultra Smooth Pure White Card Stock.  The heavy weight of this card stock makes it ideal for a project like this.  I helped Maddie ink the stamps up and got them into position for her using a stamp press.  This press was a great tool for us since she could just press the stamp down onto the paper once I had everything set up for her.  We used Memento Tuxedo Black ink and it gave us crisp and clear images.  We also stamped a cupcake directly onto the bottom right corner of the cork foam board itself.  I love that little touch - great idea Maddie!

After we stamped our pattern on the sheet, we colored the images in together with colored pencils (Maddie got to pick her favorite colors).  I haven't sat down to color with my girls in a LONG time.  Somehow they just seemed too old for that, but we had a ball talking all about the happenings in second grade while we were together. :)

We used scor-tape to tape the paper into place onto the top of the cork board and I trimmed the excess paper off  with a craft knife.  After measuring the center points of the paper both vertically and horizontally, we cut and glued ribbon into place at each of the button points on the edges as shown.  We added glue to the back of the buttons and covered up the ribbon intersections to finish off the project.  Maddie and I took ordinary thumb tacks and adhered buttons to the top of them with glue dots.  We used scor-tape to adhere our Lemon Grass grosgrain ribbon over the seam of our paper and gave our cork cupcake a little thumb tack cherry.  If you are looking for a really easy and great craft project to do with kids (Girl Scouts, Class Project, etc), this is it!  It is very inexpensive and if you want to same even more time, you could just used patterned paper instead of stamping.

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek. I hope you have a great weekend!
